YVML Workshop FAQ’s

What should I do to prepare?

Our workshops are designed to educate students regardless of their past experience. You will receive an email that is specific to your workshop and how to prepare. Most materials, tools, equipment, and instruction will be provided on the day of the workshop. If you have your own protective equipment like gloves, goggles, respirators and masks, feel free to bring it with you. There will be plenty of protective equipment available for everyone on site.

When should I get there?

We ask students to arrive a few minutes early to fill out waivers and settle into their workstations.

What should I wear?

The YVML workshop space is in an open-air setting. For cooler months, wearing layers is strongly recommended since the desert wind can be unpredictable.  In the hotter months, we suggest bringing sunscreen, a hat, water, hair ties, and anything else that will keep you comfortable while you are on site. Heavy, non-synthetic work clothes are strongly recommended for metals-based programs like foundry and welding workshops.

What’s it like on campus?

YVML is located in a rural community and situated in the Mojave Desert. We recommend students always stay aware of their surroundings, especially around local flora and fauna to avoid coming into contact with cacti and other unwanted visitors.

What amenities are available at YVML?

The workshop space at YVML has a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker and multiple picnic tables for workshop participants to use. There are also on-site restrooms.

What should I do for lunch?

We recommend that all participants bring snacks for personal use. We recommend day-long workshop participants prepare a brown-bag lunch since the closest amenities are about a 30-minute round trip drive away from the YVML campus.

Do you offer accessibility accommodations?

Yes! Please email support@yvml.org with accessibility accommodation requests to ensure the workshop is a positive experience for you.

I still have a question. Who should I contact?

Please email support@yvml.org with any other questions or concerns about your workshop.
